Rich Pins work by displaying metadata from your website.
Metadata is a concise snippet of information that sums up the purpose and content of each individual page of your website. Your website metadata isn’t just important for Rich Pins, it provides search engines like Google with information about the pages of your website, and helps them determine whether your website is relevant enough to display in search results.
How to add metadata…
The great news is that if you use Shopify, Etsy, Ebay or Squarespace for your eshop, you’re already set-up for metadata. So you can head straight to the next step!
If your e-commerce site uses WordPress, the simplest way is to use the YOAST SEO plug-in. Once correctly configured you’ll be able to enable something called ‘Add Open Graph Metadata’.

How to use rich pins now that you have metadata…
Once you have metadata ready on the product pages of your website, you’ll have all the information you need for Rich Pins, now you simply need to validate your site with Pinterest (trust us it’s speedy!).
This sounds daunting but it’s a simple process whereby you copy the URL web address for one of your website pages into the validator, and click ‘validate’. Sometimes it will be approved right away, but on occasion it can take up to 2 days before your products appear as Rich Pins. You only need to validate one single URL on your website to validate the entire website for Rich Pins.

How to make use of Rich Pins…
Now every time you paste a link from your website into your posts, it’ll become a Rich Pin – cool hey! But don’t think your work is done, remember your job is to make people want to click on your pin, so attention grabbing titles and well thought through descriptions are a must. Try to include natural keywords for your products, and ask yourself why should someone want to click on your pin!
