We’re currently in a period of hightened cyber threat.
Since the conflict begain between Russia and Ukraine, organisations in the UK have had no choice but to strengthen their online security. What we’d hoped would be short lived between the two countries, is showing itself to be a long drawn-out confrontation. The cyber security industry needs to make feasible adjustments now that a short-term high-output response is off the cards. A new way of sustaining this level of working is necessary. Organisations need to support their staff, with the real concerns of staff burnout being a topic that cannot be glossed over.
Paul Maddinson, Director of the The National Cyber Security Centre (part of the Government Agency) urges organisations to seek out the new help and guidance that the NCSC has produced in order to support staff during this period.
The NCSC Guidance on Avoiding Staff Burnout
In the guidance it’s highlightened that prolonged periods of increased workloads can have health implications, lead to low-productivity and potential work errors with substantial consequences.
The guidance encourages organisations to get the basics right:
-Spread the workload evenly
-Offer flexible working where possible
-Ensure sufficient breaks are taken
-Enpower staff to make decisions without involving more staff than needed, or delaying resolution times.
You can find the full guidance from the NCSC here.
