With Christmas just around the corner, 2025 is seeing a huge surge in temporary seasonal job searches.
According to the hiring website ‘Indeed’, searches for seasonal work have peaked in 2025, far surpassing any other year since Indeed began its records back in 2018.
As early as the start of October, searches for Christmas jobs were already up 29% on 2024.
What’s causing the 2025 seasonal job search surge?
Indeed’s senior economist believes that the increase in general living costs, as well as more limited opportunities within the jobs market are producing a surge in searches for work to support the most financially straining time of the year.
Do the stats support a slowing in the jobs market?
According to Indeed, general job postings are down 14% on the previous year, and 22.5% down on pre-pandemic posting levels.
Figures from HMRC indicated a fall in 10,000 workers on payroll in the month of September.
Seasonal roles being offered…
The good news is that there has been an increase in seasonal job postings, but not in line with the increase in searches. Indeed’s statistics show a modest increase in seasonal job postings of 2.7% over last year. Retail and hospitality roles remain the most numerous postings. Great news for employers looking to fill seasonal short-term roles!
